Lets talk dual applying. Asking for advice because this seems like such a taboo topic to bring up with mentors/ faculty at my school. I'm an MS4 at a mid-tier MD school. I am a non-trad and already took a research year between M3 and M4 so I really want to avoid not matching. While my stats are decent (250 step 1; top 25% of my class; 10 first .... Personally, I don't think it's that big of a deal. Most programs focus on Step 1, and your step 1 score is perfectly average for dermatology. At the end of the day, residency is a job, and too many candidates rely solely on high test scores.It doesn't matter, so just pick what you think is the most accurate. It sounds like you feel like the first one should be rural and the second one should be urban. Ultimately, it doesn't matter. A 240 is honestly low among that pool, and yes many people match with scores around there or less, but they likely make up with very very high end things otherwise.So always clarify timelines and communicate if you don't think you can meet a deadline. It's better to let the PI know upfront so they can assign more people if necessary, instead of delaying the project. So a little better than a coin flip. For some people, that level of risk is unacceptable, while others are more than okay with that level of possibility. .
